Circuitous Paths – Involuntary Detour?

Today’s Daily Prompt: A stranger knocks on your door, asking for directions from your home to the closest gas station (or café, or library. Your pick!). Instead of the fastest and shortest route, give him/her the one involving the most fun detours.

Why would you want to do that? Or am I being too practical here? Why would you send somebody on a detour when he or she just wants to get to the nearest facility? I wouldn’t. But I can think of situations in which I would suggest a detour:

If a stranger knocks on my door and asks for directions to the nearest seaside town, I will tell him to take the motorway south. That is the fastest route to get to the beach. But if he wants to enjoy the journey, he should take the touristic route. He could visit the cute villages and historic towns and have an afternoon tea. He could visit Jane Austen’s house or detour through the New Forest to see the ponies.

But I would definitely let this stranger decide to either fast-forward to the sea or to take some time to view the beautiful landscape.
